MUST-SEE: Chris Martin of Coldplay visits fan diagnosed with stage 4 cancer

By CHERRY SUN
Before their much-awaited performance tonight, April 4, Chris Martin, frontman of Coldplay, paid his avid fan a visit.

Chris’ generous act came after a public letter from Ken Santiago’s eldest brother, Kheil Vin, reached the British band.

On March 24, Kheil Vin Santiago narrated on Facebook Ken’s enthusiasm upon learning that his favorite band is coming to perform for the first time in the Philippines. However, his excitement gradually dissipated when he found out about his state of health.

“Since the Coldplay had started, my brother, Ken, has been an avid fan. The moment the Coldplay announced that they will be having [a] concert in the Philippines, Ken was very much excited to buy tickets. He was the one who bravely line[d] up to buy your tickets. He bought the nearest possible tickets our money can afford,” Kheil wrote.

“But just last February this year, he was diagnosed with Cancer stage 4. It was a very shocking news for everybody ‘coz he was a very normal man, a very generous, kind, loving, and most of all, a God-fearing one. We did not expect this to happen. Every day in the hospital, his hobby is to play music from Coldplay,” he continued.

According to Kheil, Ken has given his ticket to his younger brother while concealing his sadness for the lost opportunity to see his idols perform.

He shared, “But we can feel that he really wanted to be there. But due to his health condition that we cannot compromise, we, especially him accepted the fact that he can’t be there in the most special concert of Coldplay for him.”

Kheil posted the public letter to request the band to send his brother a short greeting, but they got more than they wished for. It seemed Chris wanted to send his well-wishes to Ken in person.

A post from Coldplay Philippines Facebook page shows Chris with Ken at the hospital.

“Chris Martin visited Ken Santiago, our fellow Coldplayer who already bought tickets but cannot make it tonight because he was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Keep fighting Ken,” the caption read.

Coldplay is set to perform tonight at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds as part of their ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ Tour.
