By Racquel Quieta

Social media has become an essential part of people's lives. One of the best uses of it is for staying connected with our loved ones and acquaintances. And the other beneficial function of it is that it serves as a platform for people to impart important information, express opinions, and also to get entertained.

However, there's also a not-so-good side to using social media, as it can inadvertently cause feelings of insecurity and depression. With many people posting their best selfies, photos of their recent travel to a dream destination, or posting about their big purchases or accomplishments, others can't help but feel left out.

Mars Pa More hosts discuss social media envy with Maey Bautista, John Feir, and life coach Velden Lim

In an episode of Mars Pa More, hosts Iya Villania-Arellano and Camille Prats-Yambao discussed social media envy with guests Kapuso host-comedienne Maey Bautista and actor John Feir, who confessed that sometimes they do feel a bit insecure when they see other people's posts on social media.

John, on the other hand, acknowledged that he sometimes feels insecure about his body.

Guest life coach Velden Lim then gave tips on how to avoid social media envy. He advised, “First and foremost, you need to stop comparing. Because I believe that the (way) to kill something special is to compare it with something else.

“The second thing is you need to start thanking, It's all about gratitude. Ang problema kasi natin we always look at what we lack, rather than what we have. And so the moment na nagpasalamat ka, then makikita mo biglang ang dami palang biyaya.

“When you start being grateful for what you have, sana pumunta ka doon sa isa pang level: you become grateful for what your friend has.”
