Intel's first Philippine smartphone
Intel Philippines country manager Ricky Banaag holds up the Acer Liquid C1 smartphone, featuring the company's new Atom Z2420 processor, at a press conference March 13.
The Acer Liquid C1 is touted as the first Intel-based smartphone to be launched in the Philippines.
The Atom Z2420 represents Intel's major foray into mobile phone processors, after decades of leadership in the computer processor market.
Although no specific pricing has yet been announced, Banaag said that the new processor is specifically designed for affordable mobile platforms in emerging markets.
"(The Philippines is) the fastest-growing smartphone market in Asia," Banaag said, citing third-party statistics. TJ Dimacali
