Leading broadcast company GMA Network proved once more that it is the choice of the Iskolar ng Bayan as it took home a total of 28 awards at the Gandingan 2018: The 12th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multi-media Awards. The awarding ceremony was held last March 17 at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna.

Leading the Kapuso winners this year was GMA News Pillar Mike Enriquez who was conferred the special award Gandingan ng Kapayapaan for his public affairs program “Imbestigador”. The Gandingan ng Kapayapaan honor was created this year in line with the theme “Lipad tungo sa Kapayapaan”, which recognized radio stations and TV networks that featured peace and order in their programs.

Another GMA News Pillar, Jessica Soho, was given the Gandingan ng Kabataan for her top-rating show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho”. Meanwhile, Kapuso personality Drew Arellano was awarded the Gandingan ng Edukasyon for his infotainment program “AHA!,” which was also recognized as the Most Development-Oriented Educational Program. UPLB also gave Dr. Nielsen Donato and Dr. Ferds Recio the Gandingan ng Kalikasan award for their travel and wildlife show “Born to be Wild”. GMA News reporter Emil Sumangil won as this year’s Best Field Reporter.

GMA Public Affairs’ special documentary entitled “Sa Serbisyong Totoo, Nabago ang Buhay Ko,” which featured the life-changing stories aired by GMA Public Affairs programs over the past 30 years, was recognized as the Most Development-Oriented Public Service Program.

Taking home two awards for GMA Entertainment Content Group was last year’s gripping Afternoon Prime series “Legally Blind”. Top-billed by Janine Gutierrez, “Legally Blind” won as Most Development-Oriented Women’s Program and Most Gender Transformative Program.

On top of being given the Gandingan ng Kaunlaran award, leading local news channel GMA News TV also earned seven more recognitions. Flagship evening newscast “State of the Nation with Jessica Soho” was this year’s Most Development-Oriented News Program with Soho taking home the Best News Anchor recognition as well.

“Investigative Documentaries”, on the other hand, won as Most Development-Oriented Investigative Program; “I Juander” as Most Development-Oriented Magazine Program; “Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie” as Most Development-Oriented Talk Show; and “Wagas” as Most Development-Oriented Drama Program. GMA News TV’s public service campaign “Karapatan Mo, Juan” was chosen as the Most Development-Oriented TV Plug.

Radio GMA, on the other hand, clearly dominated Gandingan 2018’s radio category. GMA’s flagship AM station Super Radyo DZBB won as Most Development-Oriented AM Station, while “Saksi sa Dobol B” emerged as this year’s Most Development-Oriented AM Program.

Barangay LS 97.1 DWLS FM was named as Most Development-Oriented FM Station, while one of its top-rating shows, “Radyo Nobela”, won as Most Development-Oriented FM Program. Barangay LS radio personality Papa Dudut was recognized as Best FM Program Host for “Barangay Love Stories”.

The Network’s regional arm, GMA Regional TV, won big that night as well with four core awards, including the Most Development-Oriented TV Station citation. Core awards are given to outstanding programs aired over local, community, or regional radio and TV stations or channels as well as those produced by schools.

“Balitang Amianan” took home the Most Development-Oriented News Program award. The top-rating local news program features comprehensive and in-depth delivery of news and information in North Central Luzon. In addition, Tek Ocampo of “One Mindanao” was recognized as Best News Anchor, while Lou-Anne Mae Rondina of “Balitang Bisdak” was named asBest Field Reporter.

News website GMA News Online capped off the honors the Network received with two more awards. “Late Response, Clunky Policies Leave Saudi OFWs, Kin in Misery” by Rie Takumi and Jessica Bartolome took home the Most Development-Oriented Online News Article award while Chino Gaston’s “Deception and Regret: The Story of a Maute Child Warrior” won as theMost Development-Oriented Online Feature Article.

The Gandingan 2018: The 12th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multi-media Awards is the only student-organized recognition program that highlights the value of development communication and the contribution of both national and local or community-based stations and online platforms in changing the lives of Filipinos.
