At the recent Gandingan 2019: The 13th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multi-media Awards by the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), GMA Regional TV took home three awards.

Western Visayas local newscast One Western Visayas won as the Most Development-Oriented News Story for “GMA Regional TV Presents: Modern Day Heroes”.  At the same time, the newscast’s “Bigyan ng Halaga” emerged as the Most Development-Oriented Feature Story. Both stories were produced by One Western Visayas correspondent Zeny Grace Quilantang together with Video Journalist Rommel Porquia.

In receiving the awards, Quilantang expressed her gratitude to the UPLB community. “Maraming salamat Gandingan for this award. Ito po ang pinakaunang award na natanggap namin after launching last year,” she said.

Launched in August 2018, One Western Visayas is GMA Regional TV’s pioneering Hiligaynon news program anchored by Atty. Sedfrey Cabaluna with Bacolod co-anchor and correspondent Adrian Prietos, and Iloilo co-anchor Kaitlene Rivilla.

Meanwhile, for the second consecutive year, Balitang Bisdak correspondent Lou-Anne Mae Rondina was named Best Field Reporter. “I am extremely honored to be receiving the Best Field Reporter,” Rondina said, adding that “I am sure each and every nominee for this award is as capable or if not more of this award.”

Anchored by Bobby Nalzaro, with Alan Domingo and Cecille Quibod-Castro, Balitang Bisdak features comprehensive and in-depth delivery of news and information in Cebu and key cities and provinces in Central and Eastern Visayas.

GMA Regional TV also earned five awards at the 3rd Annual Aninaw Media Awards by the PHINMA University of Pangasinan’s Communication Arts Department.

North Central Luzon’s top-rating local news program Balitang Amianan once again triumphed as this year’s Best News Program. Its anchor, CJ Torida, was conferred the Most Outstanding News Presenter of the Year (Male Category) award. He also won as the Most Popular TV Personality of the Year. Jasmin Gabriel-Galban was named as Most Outstanding News Presenter of the Year, while Russel Simorio took home the Best Field Reporter award.

“I congratulate all the winners from GMA Regional TV for continuing to excel on their craft,” says GMA Regional TV Vice President and Head Oliver Amoroso. “We, at GMA Regional TV, always say that local news matters. These awards just validate how important regional newscasts are and how our regional viewers have continued to support us in all our unified news programs.”

Amoroso says that while most challenging, unifying newscasts has been the most rewarding experience for them in GMA Regional TV. “Balitang Amianan, our unified newscast that covers North Central Luzon, remains undisputed in the ratings game. Balitang Bisdak in Central and Eastern Visayas has already beaten its counterpart. Meanwhile, One Mindanao has narrowed the gap on the competition. And our pioneering unified Hiligaynon local news program, One Western Visayas, continues to dominate its timeslot—less than a year after its launch. We owe all our success to our loyal Kapuso viewers and the men and women who make up the whole GMA Regional TV. Rest assured that we will not rest on our laurels but continue to provide quality programs all over the Philippines,” he ends.
