7 Best Brands for Morena Skin According to Celebrity Makeup Artist Rodolfo Sitchon

By Felix Ilaya

For morenas, looking for new base products that suit their shade could be quite the task as there are many factors to consider when finding the perfect match.

But with makeup brands releasing more foundations, concealers, and powders that cater to different shades, the hunt for morena-approved makeup has gotten easier than ever.

Celebrity makeup artist Rodolfo Sitchon, who's worked on clients like Kyline Alcantara, Yasmien Kurdi, and Alice Dixson, shared his favorite drug store and high-end brands that offer a lot of shades for morena skin.

Take a look at his list of beauty brands which have products fit for morenas below:

L'Oréal

L'Oréal Philippines has a variety of shades to choose from. The brand also offers a wide range of products, from concealers and powders to mattes and dewy finishes. Plus, it's affordable for its good quality.

FS (Features & Shades)

Our local FS Cosmetics also has powders that really match morena skin. Others compare its products to MAC Cosmetics and for its price, it's actually a win-win.

Nichido

Nichido's loose powders are also good when it comes to baking. (Baking is a technique where one packs a lot of loose powder in the under eye and t-zone to set the makeup in place.) Also, their powders which have yellow undertones really suit morena skin tones.

Ellana Cosmetics

Ellana Cosmetics has mineral makeup formulated for sensitive skin and their shade range is favorable for morena skin.

NARS Cosmetics

For Sitchon, NARS Cosmetics has this unique texture that really creates a good makeup canvas without the sticky feeling. It works well in the Philippines especially since we have such humid weather. Their shade range is quite amazing, from pale whites and olives to tones that match women of color. NARS also has different foundations for all skin types and needs such as full coverage, sheer, and tinted moisturizers. Their Radiant Creamy Concealer and Matte Complete Concealer is also a best buy when it comes to quality and stability. Once, you have it, you won't regret it.

Laura Mercier

Laura Mercier Cosmetics has an amazing translucent powder that is truly reliable for users and as well as for other artists I know. Plus, it's a universal tint and it's suitable for every shade.

Fenty Beauty

Fenty Beauty made huge waves in the beauty industry since it's one of the first brands that created a wide variety of shades for everyone. Their foundation is good and its longevity is reliable.

Sitchon also offered a few tips for morenas when shopping for foundations.

"When buying a new foundation shade, always swatch it on a small portion of your face and never on the back of your hand. Get a pea-sized amount of the product and blend it from the jawline down to the neck using your fingers. That way, you can determine the exact shade that will match your skin.

"Consider the condition of your skin to know if the formula is compatible for your skin's needs; use a matte finish for oily skin and a dewy finish for dry skin. Also, check the foundation if it oxidizes on your skin."

Oxidization is a process that happens to the foundation when too much pH of the skin's oils mixes with the pigment in the product making it appear darker.

As a makeup artist who's worked on different clients, Rodolfo has picked up a trick or two on how to create a seamless base for morenas.

"Based on my own experience working with morena skin, I always use two shades of foundation. One of the shades I use that matches the client's skin and the other is at least one to two shades darker. The forehead and jawline should appear darker. That way, the foundation will look seamless on the skin as it transitions to the hairline. This technique also creates a natural-looking contour without using any contouring products," he said.

Lastly, he believes that the best beauty or makeup look for morenas is one that highlights their natural skin tone the most. "For me, no makeup looks can highlight Filipina morena beauty. Our shade is even envied by most Europeans and Americans so I think that the best makeup trend is to be proud of your skin color.

"There is also no problem if you want to wear makeup. Whatever brand you are wearing, always believe that less is more. Just a little bit of everything to enhance your true beauty. Also, having great skin is better than buying a bunch of makeup."
