Athleisure makeup? Game-on!

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

It's no secret that the best way to treat your skin while you're at the gym is to leave it bare and let it breathe. But, with the hashtag #gymselfie accruing more than 1 million hits on Instagram and rising, gym makeup is showing no sign of defeat.

“We have to balance the makeup with the person,” says Tor Torre, a celebrity makeup artist whose roster of clients are Cherie Gil, Suzi Abrera, and Michelle Dee.

“It's better to play with how you think you look but much more presentable and better. Because if we put a smokey eye on a person who is an athlete ay baka ma-shock lang ang lahat.”

So if you want to wear makeup to the gym, here are his tips on making sure you look fresh with products specifically designed to wear while you work out.

Sunscreen as primer

Sunscreen worn under your foundation acts not only to protect your face from the harmful rays of the sun but it also the perfect primer for your face - hello, two-in-one product.

Oil-Free Foundation

Makeup worn during exercise should be oil-free so that your skin can breathe. Oil-based products tend to trap sweat, which can cause it to smear and may even end up a zit.

Conceal any flaws

If you have a pimple or a few blemishes to cover, go for a concealer that contains salicylic acid.

Swipe some color on your cheeks

Swipe some blush to the apples of your cheeks but don't overdo it though since your cheeks may turn red while working out.

Curl your lashes

Curl your lashes to the heavens and coat it with waterproof mascara so that you don't end up like a panda at the end of your sweat sesh.

Keep these five makeup products in your gym bag and you're all ready to look cute not only in your selfies but also that hottie by the dumbells.
