Beauty Tips Perfect for Every Age

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

For thousands of years, makeup has been the universal language that all women use and understand easily.

And even though there aren't any huge differences between all the brands, choosing the right product for your age bracket is the best way to start using makeup.

Looking for the most appropriate ones can help with many things: knowing which specific color to use and what ingredients to look for at a certain stage in your life.

Here are some tips from celebrity makeup artist Tor Torre.

20s to 30s

Stage: Experimental phase
Tip: Create your core skincare routine
Splurge: Eye cream and Sunblock

“In general, you cleanse, tone, moisturize, and then you use eye cream and then sunblock,” Tor says.

“The most important thing is to use an eye cream especially an anti-aging one because the skin under our eyes is the thinnest. So early on, you have to strengthen it because that's where the lines form.

“And then apply a generous amount of sunscreen --- very, very important. It's a way to keep fine lines at bay.”

30s to 40s

Stage: Downsizing phase
Tip: Stop experimenting because your skin is not as young as before
Splurge: Moisturizers and AHA/BHA toners

To keep your skin looking at its perfect form, he suggests adding more moisturizers in your skincare and makeup products.

“I suggest with women at a certain age to add moisture into their skin because as you age you lose all our collagen content. Your lips become thinner, your skin becomes drier, making it more prone to wrinkles.”

Similarly, he advises looking for ingredients that have Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA). These ingredients help remove dead skin cells and excess sebum to reveal the new layer of your skin lying underneath.

40s to 50s

Stage: Minimalist Stage
Tip: Only use the simplest products and give your skin a break
Splurge: Hydrating makeup

Women who are in this stage must continue their skin regimen when they were in their 30s. Packing on moisturizers and eye cream.

But if you still plan to wear makeup, Tor's advice is to look for “foundations that are luminous and hydrating at the same time so you don't look dry and patchy. “And then you know, minimize your eye makeup but you can play around with lip colors.”

Whatever your age bracket is, it's best to note that there are no specific makeup rules to follow. As Tor says, “There's no one beauty trick that you have to follow because everybody's skin type is different, you just have to minimize as you get older.”
