You only need 3 steps to healthy skin, according to this dermatologist

By Jansen Ramos

Forget about skin regimens that take x number of steps to accomplish and think about the basic. This was the key message of Dr. Zharlah Gulmatico-Flores of Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) at the recently concluded Cetaphil National Healthy Skin Mission.

According to Dr. Gulmatico-Flores, the primary step to achieving flawless skin is to have healthy skin and it does not need to be complicated. You only need three products in your beauty stash: cleanser, moisturizer, and sunblock.

Cleanser

Cleanser removes oil and impurities of the skin surface. It leaves the skin intact so make sure to use the type of cleanser that is suitable to your skin.

Remember that the key to having a more effective skin regimen is for you to know your skin type. If you choose the wrong type of cleanser, you can be prone to dry or sensitive skin, or allergies.

Moisturizer

When it comes to hydration, note that the moisture is the water content of the skin and not the oil. So no matter how oily you are, you must apply moisturizer.

You can make use of oil-free or water-based moisturizers if you have oily skin and oil-based moisturizer if you have dry skin.

Sunblock

If you can't prevent outdoor activity between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., make sure to apply sunblock. The proper way to apply it is at least 30 minutes prior to sun exposure. Choose sunblock that has UVA and UVB protection for aging and burns, and has at least SPF 30.

Ultimately, Dr. Gulmatico-Flores reminds everyone that the simpler the skincare routine is, the better result you get!
