Hairstylist Homer Mainit shares the secret to bouncier curls.

If you ended up in this story, then you're likely to share something in common with Jass Rai, Glow Up's latest case study: a lifelong struggle with properly managing curly hair.

Great thing is, she was able to grab a makeover from hairstylist Homer Mainit and we're here to share the secrets to bouncier curls, just like Jas.

1. Be specific as possible with your stylist

A hairstylist should always begin their session with a conversation because it's the biggest key to making sure you walk out of the salon happy.

Although there is no one set haircut that works for all types of curly hair, Homer did a version of what's called a “sliding technique,” where he cuts the layers of hair to add texture, remove the bulk, and make it less frizzy.

2. For bouncier curls, add a serum

As Homer styled Jaz's hair, he made sure to really work the product for her hair type. He recommended rubbing the serum between your fingers and comb the product through each section. He advised avoiding the scalp as it will lead to dandruff, which everyone wants to avoid.

3. Consider a hydrating conditioner

Just like wearing a primer, the key to a perfectly shiny, bouncy, and frizz-free curls is applying a hydrating conditioner after washing your hair with shampoo.

Homer claims that afterward, rinse your hair with cold water to close cuticles, especially after you've applied a hydrating conditioner.

4. Air-dry whenever possible

One of the first lessons most curly girls have to learn is that your hair usually looks better when air-dried. Homer says it's the best method to let the products really soak in and work their magic on your hair. If you don't have the time, you can always break out the diffuser or your trusty electric fan.

5. To add volume, clap your hands between your curls

After your curls have dried, flip your hair upside down and then clap your hands quickly a few times between your curl. This gives the right amount of added volume without shaking the curls or causing frizz.

So say goodbye to rebond and relaxer treatment! With these tips in mind, we hope you live your best curl life.
