“New Year, New Me” is the famous line that you'd hear many people say when they talk about their New Year's resolution. The start of a new year often inspires people to make that change they've been long planning for or begin a new journey towards a new goal.

One of the most common ways that people create a “new me” is by changing their looks, especially getting a new haircut or hair color.

So, if you're planning to do so this 2021, get inspiration from celebrity hairstylist Lourd Ramos, who recently shared on Unang Hirit all of the trendy hairstyles and colors for this year.

Haircut/Hairstyle

Lourd says that for women, the short hair trend this 2021 is the hanging bob, which has a Cleopatra-ish vibe to it.

And for those who want to rock long hair, you can go for the full flower haircut, which is basically made up of several layers and also has curtain bangs.

And speaking of bangs, this year you can either go for the super full bangs or the curtain bangs, which will frame your face.

For men, the two trendy hairstyles are long hair with tousled curls and curtain bangs and the short military domination clean cut, which is Lourd's hairstyle at the moment.

“Clean side faded pero biglang oops may tusok, parang meron siyang accent na tinatawag.”

Hair colors

When it comes to hair color for women, Lourd says micro highlights or microlites and lolites are in this season.

“Sobrang ninipis ng highlights na 'yan na para bang 'Totoo bang akin 'yung buhok na 'yan?'

He also enumerated other trendy hair colors for women this 2021 such as ultra-blonde, ultra-platinum, purples, blues (specifically blue jeans), aroma green, baby pink, honey iced tea, ash blonde silver gray, and deep dark chocolate brown.

For men, Lourd says that ultra-platinum, aroma green, and pastel blue are some of the “in” colors for 2021.

“I'm actually wearing one of the trends right now, which is ultra-platinum.”

“Kasi dahil sa K-Pop influence natin 'yan at tsaka sa mga Hollywood celebrities na napapanood natin na grabe…blonde, platinum, minsan 'yung iba purple pa tsaka blue.”

“'Yung green talaga they made it more wearable this season, na everyone can have it. A woman and a man can have it because it's wearable, unlike before na katakot ('yung) green, 'yung tipong ganun.”

The renowned hairstylist also talked about another trend this 2021, the hybrid colors.

“Ang hybrid colors kung napansin ninyo, 'yan 'yung mga nag-iiba ibang kulay. Halimbawa, nagsimula siya sa deep ash tapos nagiging silver, nagiging white.

“And then merong blue tones na tinatawag. So, puwede rin 'yang purple, puwede rin 'yang baby pink.

“Kumbaga, ito 'yung mga overgrown hair. Halimbawa, mars, hindi ka nakapagpakulay sa'kin nang matagal tapos nag-overgrow. Ito-tone ko siya ng different tones. Magsisimula ako sa ash, magsisimula ako sa beige, and then ihuhuli ko 'yung blue.

“So, ang mangyayari, different tones of colors siya.”

Tips for coloring and maintenance

Lourd also gave a word of caution for those who wants to do DIY hair color at home. He says you'll need someone to help you out when coloring your hair at home, to avoid hair coloring horror stories like the ones recently featured on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.

He says you can video call hair experts like himself or better yet just book an appointment with your hairstylist.

“I would really suggest (that you) go and visit your salons, your professional hairdressers para naman tayo ay hindi mahirapan at tsaka alam mo 'yon, ma-achieve talaga 'yung color.

“Baka mamaya, Diyos ko po, imbes na ma-achieve, ma-loss.”

And as for maintaining your hair color, Lourd suggests that you use color specific shampoo and conditioner. For example, you should use purple shampoo and conditioner for your purple-colored hair.

You can also use hair treatment products at home and add one teaspoon of Argan oil to it.
