Miss Earth PH candidates take care of the environment and their skin, too

By Nherz Almo

Miss Earth Philippines candidates are known as “beauties for a cause” as they always prioritize taking care of the environment in their advocacies.

However, while pushing for these, these pageant candidates do not forget about taking care of themselves, especially their skin. So, whenever they have spare time, these ladies go to beauty clinics and spas to pamper themselves.

Just like what happened recently when five of these candidates graced the opening of Morph Aesthetics at the Il Terazzo Mall in Quezon City.

“I really like to have facial treatments,” said Kerri Reilly of Mangatarem, Pangasinan.

She explained. “I wear a lot of makeup as a beauty queen. I really like to keep my skin nice and clean.”

This is also the favorite treatment of Naoimi Henave of Dasmariñas Cavite and Lasil Relevo of Balayan, Batangas.

Naomi said, “I really love to take care of my skin, especially as a student and a candidate, the stress and the tiredness that come with what we do is really hard. So, by maintaining our skin, as a representative, I really want to make sure that I show the best in front of everybody.”

Among the activities of Miss Earth Philippines are tree planting and waste cleanup drives, which expose the candidates to the harmful UV rays of the sun.

This is why Yllana Aduana of Siniloan, Laguna wants to try the gluta drip.

“Like what she said earlier, we're always exposed under the sun, we're always [attending] tree planting, waste cleanup drives. You know, I also want to experience a bit of relaxation and self-care,” she said.

Cea De Jesus of Taguig City, on the other hand, always goes for multivitamin drip.

She reasoned, “I'm an athlete, I always do wall climbing and freediving. I'm always outside, especially now in Miss Earth Philippines we have so much activities, for the earth and for the pageant, so it's important for us to keep our immunities up so we can go ahead ang clean.”

Personal activities for the environment

Meanwhile, before joining the pageant Miss Earth Philippines candidates Cea, Kerri Lasil, Naomi, and Yllana have been doing personal activities for the environment.

Yllana said she has visited several barangays in Siniloan, Laguna, to plant coconut trees as part of her tree-planting initiatives.

“Coconut trees are very special to me because I used to have them when I was younger. I wanna promote the interconnection of the environment and the economy through the coconut tree. We all know that the coconut tree is the tree of life. It can be used in economic development as well as environmental amelioration,” she said.

Balayan, Batangas representative Lasil advocates sustainable life.

“It's very hard when you're not used to doing it,” she said. “As a Miss [Philippines] Earth [candidate] it's my responsibility and duty to spread awareness about it. Right now, my eco activities are going to organizations that support sustainability.

“Now, I'm supporting 10 organizations and they are making bags from tetra packs, which you can use when you're going to the palengke or the mall, it's fashionable.”

Cea De Jesus of Taguig, on the other hand, is a proud co-founder of Feeding Change Philippines, which celebrated its fifth anniversary yesterday, April 1.

“What we really do is we go around the Philippines, to hard-to-reach areas, to educate, give medical assistance, and give school supplies to children. I can go on and on about it because I love it so much. But what I've learned from that, people wanna take care of the environment, people want to take care of each other, and people to help---they just don't know how. So, that's what we do, we make a way for other people to help,” she said.

Meanwhile, Naoimi takes pride in representing Dasmariñas, Cavite “because that's one of the greenest cities in the country.”

She stressed, “With that, it really comes with a great responsibility. I've been participating in cleanups in my community. When I became an official candidate for Miss Philippines Earth, I was able to talk with different organizations like CENRO [City Environment and Natural Resources] which actually has great projects.”

Like her fellow candidates, Kerri has also been going around towns in Pangasinan to promote awareness about endangerd trees through her project called “Kerri Cares.”

“My tree is narra tree and they are already endangered. So, I'm going around schools to teach [the youth] how to plant trees, love trees, and make sure they can see trees the way I see trees with my own eyes.”
