'Carmela' stars tell all about Alden Richards

By Kristin EJ Armonio
He is considered by legions of fans as a heartthrob and one of the hottest male stars of today. In the world of showbiz, he is known in many titles like "Crush ng Bayan" and "Pambansang Dimples."

Now that the GMA Telebabad soap Carmela is on its finale week, we asked the stars of the show what they think about Alden Richards. Read on as his co-stars tell all.

“He is really a good actor” – Raymond Bagatsing

Kapuso actor Raymond Bagatsing first worked with Alden in the hit drama series One True Love where they played father and son. According to Raymond, he is really impressed with Alden’s acting talent.

“I worked with Alden sa One True Love. We really had good chemistry. Maganda ‘yung rapport namin,” he said. “He is really a good actor. Tulad ni Marian Rivera, pareho silang calibre stars.”

“Ipinakita niyang worthy siya na leading man ni Marian Rivera” – Agot Isidro

One True Love was also the first project together of Kapuso actress Agot Isidro and Alden Richards. Like Raymond, she, too, admires Alden’s acting chops.

“Si Alden, noong time ng One True Love, parang nag-uumpisa pa lang siyang mag-seryoso talaga sa acting career niya,” she said.

Agot also shared that when Alden first learned that he was going to be paired with the Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, he felt very nervous. But for Agot, Alden definitely has all the makings of a perfect leading man.

“Very excited siyang gawin ang Carmela,” she added. “Noong una, medyo kabado siya eh. Pero good kabado naman iyon kasi ipinakita naman niya na talagang worthy siya na leading man ni Marian Rivera.”

“Si Alden ang pinakamahusay na aktor sa generation niya” – Jaclyn Jose

Even award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose thinks that Alden Richards is the next big thing in the world of showbiz. According to her, Alden has improved a lot since their previous TV drama series together Mundo Mo’y Akin. For her, he is the actor to watch out for.

“He is getting better,” she proudly answered. “Para sa akin, malaking threat si Alden sa mga artista natin sa kasalukuyan, Humanda na ang mga naka-puwesto because darating na si Alden.”

The veteran actress added, “Mahusay na, mabait pa. Lahat nandiyan na eh. Alam niya kung ano ‘yung ginagawa niya. Para sa akin, personally lang ha, siya ‘yung pinakamahusay sa generation niya. I always tell this in all my interviews. Si Alden is the actor of this generation. If not sa GMA Network, pati rin sa kabilang istasyon. I think he is on the right track.”

Jaclyn also stated that Alden has all the potential to make it big in showbiz.

“Magaling si Alden, nangungusap ang mga mata. He can act. He’s very professional. He’s intense. He works very hard. He’s a good person. Maganda ang kalooban,” the actress enumerated.

“I like his drive to make himself better” – Direk Dominic Zapata

Carmela director Dominic Zapata revealed that he has a high regard for Alden’s work ethic and dedication to his craft.

“It always works when you have the right work ethic. Like Alden,” he said. “I like his professionalism. I like his drive to make himself better. He understands that he’s a far junior; a distant junior compared to the likes of Ms. Jaclyn Jose, Agot or even Marian. So, alam niya na kailangan niyang i-improve ‘yung craft niya.”

The director also shared that he already noticed Alden’s exemplary acting prowess during the GMA Telebabad series My Beloved which also starred Marian Rivera.

“The first time I worked with Alden was in My Beloved,” he reminisced. “I sat him down. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘You know what, I’m not the type of person who will scrimp on compliments. I will compliment you right now. I think, at your level, for someone who’s pretty much starting, you have quite a talent. But I’m telling you that, not just a compliment but also a warning. Because it can work against you. I’ve seen a lot of people who were at a raw level, they’re very good but they thought acting was just an easy thing that they could do na parang if they’re born with it, they’re okay na. No. Lamang ka lang sa start.’”

“Ang sabi ko pa, ‘If you’re not going to work on your craft, everybody’s going to catch up on you. Mauunahan ka rin. So habang lamang ka, make sure that you’re still ahead. Always improve you craft at malayo ang mararating mo.’ I told him noong My Beloved days, ‘Alden, I reckon, from your showing, your performance and your attitude, I think you’re going to have a soap of your own before the year ends.’ And it did happen,” Direk Dom shared.

The director also remarked, “I am not saying na ang galing ko na na-figure out ko iyon. Sometimes lang kasi, you see the kind of work and attitude that go hand in hand with success. I saw that in Alden. And I still see that in him.”
