PIACM's online event 'Light Up' honors lives lost and celebrates strides achieved in the fight against HIV/AIDS

By Racquel Quieta

The fight against HIV/AIDS continues despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and in line with this, the Philippine International AIDS Candlelight Memorial (PIACM) will hold an online commemoration and celebration event called Light Up.

Light Up is the official ceremony of PIACM for the year 2020, and it complements the annual International Candlelight Memorial, which occurs every third Sunday of May.

The event not only honors those whose lives were cut short due to HIV/AIDS, but also to celebrate the great strides that the HIV community has achieved over the years.

Moreover, the event will benefit the Duyan Program of The Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation, which strives to provide care and support to children living with HIV in the Philippines.

This year's theme for PIACM's ceremony is "We remember - We take action - We live beyond HIV."

PIACM has worked with several partners and sponsors to make this online event possible, namely: The Department of Health, Project Red Ribbon, LoveYourself Inc., Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Sustainability of HIV Services for Key Populations in Asia (SKPA), Frontrow Cares, Teleperformance Philippines, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), Champion Community Centers, Camber Pharmaceutical Inc. by Hetero, Premiere Condoms, Philhealth, The Red Whistle, Positibong Marino Philippines, Inc., Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), EON Group, UNAIDS Philippines, the National Youth Commission (NYC), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
