The nation was shocked upon the news of former President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III's death on Thursday, June 24, 2021 due to renal disease secondary to diabetes. Though he was in and out of the hospital due to health concerns, the Aquino family kept the ex-president's health from the public.
Condolences immediately poured in, and all eyes were on the Aquino clan, particularly Noynoy's youngest sister, TV host-actress Kris Aquino, and her sons Joshua "Josh" Aquino and James "Bimby" Aquino-Yap. Both her kids who were close to their uncle.
Josh was particularly fond of his uncle, whom Kris described as Josh's constant male figure in life. Kris made a social media post in 2018 expressing her gratitude in Noynoy's unwavering duty to his nephews, "My son [Josh] needed him--the ONLY constant male figure in his life.”
Despite the demands from his political responsibilities, PNoy found time to be present in his family's lives. He was present during the intermediate level graduation of Josh at the Multiple Intelligence School in 2011, and delivered a keynote address at the event. He was also present during the premiere of Bimby's and Kris' movies.
It's no wonder the Aquino family will miss their dear patriarch, the only son of late democracy icons, former Senator Benigno Simeon "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino.
