Actor Derek Ramsay is one proud father to his son Austin, who just celebrated his 20th birthday.
For the new chapter in Austin's life, Derek warmly penned a short but sweet message for his eldest son.
He wrote, "To my eldest son, I want to welcome you to the next chapter of your life. It's crazy how time flies, little man. Happy 20th birthday. Love you son."
Austin is Derek's son with former wife Mary Christine Jolly, whom he got married to in 2002. After their separation, Mary Christine moved to Dubai and raised Austin by herself.
Derek revealed in 2014 that he only confirmed Austin is his son in the "early part of August 2011."
In 2017, at the age of 14, Austin moved to the Philippines to study and live with Derek.
In an interview with PEP.ph, Derek said that he sees his son as his best friend but there's still a line when it comes to being a father.
He said, "I'm the same way my parents are. My parents treat me and I treat them as my best friends. I always said na my dad is my best friend, and my mom is my protector."
"And they brought me up in a way that if I have a problem or if there's anything on my mind, I run to them. I feel comfortable running to them. And that's how I bring up Austin. I treat him like my buddy, my best friend.
"At the same time, I lay the rules down. I'm not a strict father but there are certain rules that he has to follow."
