Baste's mom makes sure he doesn't forget Bisaya

Even if Baste and his family have moved to Manila, his mom Shiela wants to make sure that he doesn’t forget his roots.

“First language po namin talaga sa Gen San, Bisaya. Ako, honest speaking, hindi po talaga ako masyadong fluent sa Tagalog… Ayaw kong ma-forget niya ang Bisaya kasi dun po talaga kami galing,” she said to members of the press during their launch as NeuBake by Gardenia endorsers. 

Baste, who increases his fan base by the day, is taught to stay grounded.

“Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya na ‘Baste, walang nag-change na kahit celebrity ka na. Ikaw pa rin si Baste, ikaw 'yung anak ko. Ikaw 'yung dapat mag-follow kay Mama, dapat mag-follow kung ano 'yung dapat,’” she added.

Mommy Shiela also emphasized the importance of reprimanding Baste when necessary, so that he’ll have a clear distinction between right and wrong.

“Sa bahay po, napapagalitan [siya to show na he’s like the] normal kids na pinapagalitan. ‘It doesn’t mean na celebrity ka, hindi ka puwedeng pagalitan ni Mama,’” she concluded.
