WATCH: Saab Magalona's heartfelt 'origin video' of her son Pancho

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

"Pancho has many things in common with superheroes."

This is how mom-of-two, Saab Magalona-Bacarro, introduced her firstborn Pancho in a tell-all video about the trials she faced when raising her son.

In the 7-minute clip, Saab recalled Pancho's origin story which involved losing her daughter Luna back in February 2018 due to complications. She then told the heartbreaking story of how she and her husband Jim saw how Pancho fought the odds which includes having to say goodbye because "it looked like he wasn't going to last the night" and undergoing brain surgery.

"But like a superhero, Pancho fought," she said.

At just 17 days old, Pancho had serious complications which include ventriculitis, pulmonary hypertension, sepsis, and intraventricular hemorrhage (bleeding in the brain), that's why he had to be confined in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Fortunately, on the 58th day, they were finally able to go home.

"Pancho is not like most kids," Saab continued.

"After a month of being home, there was no more fluid in his brain. So we were able to have his shunt removed. It was another major brain surgery but Pancho handled it like a champ."

As he turned one, the Bacarros noticed that Pancho was having difficulty making eye contact or following objects with his eyes. While there are no problems with his eye structure, his doctors assumed that his vision may have been affected by the two brain surgeries.

"Just as Jim and I were slowly trying to accept it, he suddenly followed a toy with his eyes. Then he started reaching for it."

Progress then continued for Saab's "miracle boy." Afterward, Pancho was already beginning to show signs of improvement like rolling over and having motor skills like a normal baby boy. His progress has continued not only his parents but doctors alike.

"So when you see us, don't feel bad that we're going through a different path than most families.

"Remember: he wasn't even supposed to make it through the night."

Like her introduction, Saab then likened her son even more to comic book superheroes.

She said, "In comic books, there are multiverses and different timelines. In another one, my baby girl might be alive and Pancho might be like every other almost-two-year-olds. But then I wouldn't have gotten to know this Pancho of ours, the one who shows us that God is listening and showing us his miracles through him, the one who gives the sweetest hugs, the Pancho who, like a superhero, saved me and my husband.

"We are happy -- honored in fact -- to be in this superhero's timeline."

She then dedicated the video to their daughter Luna and the many members of their family who have continued to help them along the way.

Pancho is now an older brother to Jim and Saab's second son, Vito.
