Hayden Kho stresses importance of educational toys, discipline during enhanced community quarantine
School is suspended for a month due to enhanced community quarantine to combat and contain the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 in Luzon.
Because of this, celebrity doctor Hayden Kho stressed the importance of educational toys and exercising discipline to continue the education of children even while classes are suspended.
In a video she shared on his Instagram account, Hayden showed two sets of educational toys which he uses with his daughter Scarlet Snow.
He also stressed that the video's purpose is to encourage other parents, and not to promote any product.
"One month of no-school will probably make parents anxious. “Paano na our kids? Sino magtuturo?” [The] Answer is you. This is not a paid post. I just really want to share tips on how we parents can “homeschool” our kids. It's not easy. I'm also just learning. I'm sharing with you what I'm learning and I'm finding useful. [I] Hope this helps," he wrote.
Hayden also shared that he and Scarlet have learning sessions between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm daily.
"The thing here is to be very disciplined. I'm not an expert in homeschooling. We're just really starting. What I'm really learning is that there has to be discipline--may certain time kayo na dine-dedicate to do homeschooling," he says in the video.
He also stressed that these sessions should remain fun for the children.
"It has to be fun. Dapat hindi talaga kayo strict. Just be relaxed about it. If they're not paying attention--they want to have fun--just let it be sometimes, kasi you have the whole day. Honestly, you have the whole day. It's not like there's dismissal time. You should have breaks. It should be fun," Hayden adds.
Hayden's wife and Scarlet's mom, Belo Medical Group founder and medical director Dr. Vicki Belo is proud of her daughter's progress.
"Every parent waits for this “magic moment” when your child can suddenly read. After only 2 days with “teacher daddy” @dochayden , @scarletsnowbelo CAN READ BOOKS !!!!" she wrote, accompanying a short video os Scarlet reading aloud.
Scarlet also posted a short video of her answering a worksheet.
"Hi, Peoples. There's no school for the whole month so many people are asking what my parents are using to homeschool me. I'm sharing what we are using so you can use it too. I'll keep on sharing what else we are doing so you can teach your kiddies too. Today we are using @learningresources Reading Rods that my classmate gave to me as a gift. It's fun and I'm really enjoying it. Stay home peoples and stay safe," her post reads.
Meanwhile, the Belo Medical Group has also temporarily suspended the operation of its clinics in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
