Manny Pacquiao wants children to experience their hardships in life

By Nherz Almo

Pinoy boxing champ Manny Pacquiao constantly reminds his children not to hate on people who give negative comments about them.

In an interview with select entertainment media, including GMANetwork.com, the athlete-turned-politician revealed that his second son Michael, a newbie music artist, was hurt by hate comments.

The 18-year old son of Manny and Jinkee recently became a target of criticisms after he released his debut hip-hop album Dreams.

In the song titled "Pac-Man," just one of the 11 tracks in the album, Michael went viral because of his superb rap skills.

However, as much as he was praised for his work, he was also criticized for getting much attention because he is a celebrity kid.

Instead of responding to hate, Manny taught Michael to understand his bashers instead.

He related his advice to Michael, "Hindi lahat ng nasa social media magsu-support sa 'yo, pupuri sa 'yo, may mga basher din.

"Minsan di niya ma-handle, minsan parang nalulungkot siya, umiiyak.

"Pero sinasabi ko, pinapaintindi ko sa kanila na ganun talaga, you cannot please everyone, so may mga ano talaga mamba-bash sa 'yo.

"Intindihin n'yo na lang 'yan, sabi ko, 'Yung daddy n'yo rin, from the beginning of my career until now, may bashers talaga.'"

More importantly, Manny said, "Yung mga basher na yun, hindi ako galit sa kanila, doon ako humuhugot ng inspirasyon para ipakita sa sarili ko na hindi ako ganun."

The young Pacquiao seemed to have listened to his dad.

Asked about bashers in his previous interview with 24 Oras, MIchael said, “I understand naman na it's part of it.

“It's part of the journey na you can't please everyone.

“Not everyone will like your stuff.”

Quality time with family

Meanwhile, Senator Manny said the quarantine period gave him an opportunity to spend quality time with his family.

He said, "Ang na-realize namin sa quarantine na ito, maganda ang nangyari dahil yung kulang na time namin sa kanila at kulang na time nila sa amin ay sobra-sobra [na] dahil napunuan na ang lahat, sobra-sobra pa.

"Ang relationship namin, talagang malapit na. Lalo pang gumanda yung relationship namin."

During the early months of the quarantine period, the Pacquiao family, particularly the children, went viral for doing household chores and enjoying the rural life in their hometown in General Santos City.

According to Manny, he and Jinkee really intend to teach their kids about their previous hardships in life.

"Doon sila nag-aaral sa walang aircon na school for two years.

"Gusto ko kasi talaga na ma-experience nila, ma-realize nila na ang buhay ay hindi lang puro sarap dahil yung kinagisnan nila masarap na, e.

"Pero yung pinagdaanan namin, gusto ko ma-realize nila para pagdating ng araw, hindi sila matapobre.

"Gusto namin sila [maging] compassionate and helpful to others. 'Yan ang gusto ko sa kanila.

"God is good naman, mababait naman silang lahat, nirerespeto kami, at sumusunod sa kung anong advice namin sa kanila."

He reiterated in the end, "Ang mga hirap na pinagdaanan namin pinapaintindi namin sa kanila para pagdating ng panahon sila naman hindi sila maging matapobre o mayabang.

"Gusto ko humble sila, matulungin sila, at sumusunod sa Panginoon."
