Katarina Rodriguez shares on Instagram story of her labor

By Ron Lim

Followers of Katarina Rodriguez's Instagram account got an intimate look at how she gave birth to her child as she penned a detailed account of it over two posts, with another one still on the way.

The two posts contain 10 photos each, along with captions recounting the whole process of labor.

In the first post, Katarina referenced her pageant days and the question “What's the essence of a woman?” connecting it to the strength and power required to give birth.

According to Katarina's first post, she actually gave birth earlier than her due date, with her discovering she was ready to give birth while taking a shower after playing board games with her partner Nino. Near midnight, she said she felt like a fist was beating down on her cervix.

Katarina then goes on to write about “waves of pain” and contractions that would make her urinate and throw up. Through it all, she “kept track of every wave of pain, each contraction.”

Katarina continues her story in the next post, saying that by 2:30 in the morning her “inner thighs were shaking” and that she was close to collapsing, prompting her to go into the birthing pool.

From there, it was a harrowing three and a half-hour delivery, with Katarina comparing it to partying all night and then running a marathon right after, all while experiencing period cramps.

In the third and final post, Katarina said her baby, named Quino, weighed 8.5 pounds when she delivered him. She was also more contemplative about the experience in this third post, saying that a birthing mother was like ocean itself and the birth contractions the waves.

“Surrendering to my own body reminded me of how Mother Nature calls on the ocean to have episodes like that of giving birth, raging sets of waves, then calm, steady rests in between. I'll keep this thought forever, a woman is an ocean of her own,” she wrote.

Finally, she wrote about the relief and wonder she felt when baby Quino was finally out in the world.

“I'll never forget how the pain suddenly disappeared when his head came out. I was shocked that there was no more contractions, no more fire, no pain,” she shared. “And there was a tiny little human floating in the water, I felt like an animal, confused as the where he came from, amazed as to how this baby came from me. This must be the proudest moment of my life.”

Katarina's no-holds-barred story drew admiration from her Instagram followers, with a number of celebrities joining in. Patricia Prieto, Sandra Lemonon, and Thia Thomalla all congratulated her and praised her strength. Kylie Versoza called her inspiring and brave while Nicolo Cosme expressed his feelings with emojis.

Katarina is just one of the celebrities that gave birth to their child over the past month. Sunshine Garcia also recently welcomed her second son, which she and her husband Alex Castro have named Alexander. Last month, Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters gave birth to a baby girl.
