From bridal gowns to PPEs: Designer Bryan Peralta uses talent, manpower to help Filipino frontliners

By Racquel Quieta

The fight against the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may be tough, but the Filipino people's bayanahin spirit is definitely stronger.

Pinoy designers are stepping up to help address the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the Philippines. And one of them is Manila-based designer Bryan Peralta.

Bryan is the creative director of his own label, Bryan Peralta Designs. They specialize in bridal gowns and bespoke evening dresses.

However, now that almost all businesses are closed and the world seems to be at a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bryan's team is taking a break from creating gowns for beautiful brides.

They're now using their design and sewing prowess to produce the desperately needed PPEs for medical frontliners.

On his social media accounts, Bryan shared photos of the PPE and face masks that their team had created and donated.

Bryan and his team are part of the Manila Protective Gear Sewing Club, a group of local designers and sewers who are committed in making and donating PPEs, which are urgently needed by Filipino medical professionals who are on the frontline in the war against COVID-19.

Bryan also encouraged others to volunteer and join the Manila Protective Gear Sewing Club group on Facebook, where the Protective Suit Tech Pack and Patterns are posted.

Hopefully, with more compassionate people from the Philippine fashion industry responding to the call of lending their skills and talents, the shortage in PPEs will soon be appeased and the Filipino frontliners will be better protected against COVID-19.
