'The Nanny' star Fran Drescher looks back on her past outfits

By Marah Ruiz

The Nanny star and producer Fran Drescher sat down with Vogue in a home interview to break down some of her looks from the past.

The first outfit presented to her was the leopard print skirt suit from the pilot of The Nanny.

Fran described the outfit as a "90s version of Mary Poppins."

"This is from 1993. It was worn on the pilot of The Nanny. This, I think, is the definitive nanny looking costume. This is what kind of created the style of the the flashy girl from Flushing. Definitely sexy but not trashy. It had to have a sweetness to it because she was a nanny," she shares.

Fran also says that she has always had a clear sense of style thanks to her fashion icons.

"Even when I was young, I think I've always had a sense of style. I responded to women in film like Audrey Hepburn, Catherine Deneuve and Lucille Ball. She had a sophisticated sense of style in spite of the fact that she was a clown," she says.

She still has non-negotiables when it comes to picking costumes these days.

"Nowadays, the most important things I look for in my costumes is do I look young, do I look fit," she explains.

Fran and the cast of The Nanny previously did a virtual table read of their pilot episode as a way to entertain fans during the COVID-19 pandemic.
