Streetwear style may have originated from California's surf and skate culture and New York City's hip-hop scene, but it has also become popular in the Philippines over the last decade.

In recent years, Filipinos have started trading famous high-end streetwear brands for edgy locally produced urban clothing that perfectly combines comfort with style, and champions authentic and creative self-expression.

Below are some of the best local streetwear brands you should be adding to your cart now.

Team Manila

Team Manila is one of the OG streetwear brands in the Philippines that's known for their graphic tees which scream Pinoy Pride.

The brand was established in 2001 and their logo features national hero Jose Rizal casually wearing sunglasses.

Not only does Team Manila showcase Filipino culture in their streetwear, but they also tackle important issues that the country is currently facing.

Of course, they also have offerings that are timely and on trend, such as the Halloween-inspired shirt below.

Team Manila currently has a sale of up to 50% off on their past collections, including shirts and accessories, at the General Store (Daily Grind). And, they also have an upcoming sale of up to 30% off on Lazada on October 10.

Don't Blame the Kids

Don't Blame the Kids (DBTK) started out as a passion project for brothers Emil and Vince Javier in 2012. Armed only with their profound interest in streetwear and culture, the brothers learned the ropes and eventually mastered the art and business of crafting shirts that will appeal to people from different walks of life.

The designs and messages of their streetwear aim to highlight the youth in every individual, to inspire them to never stop believing in their dreams and to never let the kid inside them die.

DBTK recently teased about a collaboration they did for the iconic children's show Sesame Street. The first piece is said to drop on October 10.

THE Clothing

Another iconic local streetwear brand is THE Clothing in Cubao Expo, which celebrated its 10th year anniversary last year.

They're best known for their logo T-shirts, the cool “Cubao City” and “Cubao is Everybody” shirts, and most especially their bold and rebellious statement shirts that often have minimalist designs.

THE Clothing's latest drops are available for purchase on their webstore.

Deadways

Deadways is a relatively new streetwear brand established in Cebu back in 2017. Their products include tees, bags, hats, accessories, bottoms, women's blouses, and also lighters.

They recently announced that they will start shipping worldwide, and while their website is being improved to cater to international orders, customers may place their orders through their Lazada shop.

Staff Co.

Staff Co. is a streetwear brand whose designs are inspired by workwear and whose goal is to inspire “the staff of the world”.

Part of their mission is to build a community that has appreciation for different work life and builds one another up within the process.

Their offerings include tees, shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, shorts, pants, and accessories.

You can purchase their unique streetwear on their official website, which has same day and next day delivery options.

Plenty of awesome streetwear from local brands, right? So, go ahead and spoil yourself a little. Shop these independent streetwear brands now, so you can stay stylish while supporting Filipino talent and businesses at the same time.
