Gucci 'hacks' Balenciaga for its new collection, celebrating its 100th year

By Racquel Quieta

Just when we thought we've seen the most groundbreaking and outrageous creations, Gucci gives us the shock of our lives by featuring Balenciaga designs in their centenary collection, Aria.

The Aria collection was debuted in a special film directed by world-renowned photographer and director Floria Sigismondi and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele.

In his notes for Gucci's new collection, Alessandro Michele describes it as “a deep and ecstatic diving in everything we yearningly miss today… a jubilee of breath.”

To celebrate the Italian luxury brand's 100th year, the Aria collection pays homage to its founder, Guccio Gucci, by incorporating his former workplace in London, The Savoy Hotel, into the designs.

Guccio Gucci used to work as a lift boy in the said hotel during his youth.

Hence, you'll see the “Savoy Club” print in some of the pieces in the Aria collection.

The film also begins with a guy entering The Savoy Club, which Alessandro Michele describes as the “hacking lab made of incursions and metamorphoses.”

Other notable elements in the Aria collection are nods to the brand's equestrian heritage, especially in the accessories.

Other designs also featured the flora motif and the all-over GG print.

But what really stole the show was the shocking feature of designs by Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia in some of the pieces.

Moreover, the film also features songs that mention the brand's name such as Lil Pump's “Gucci Gang,” “Green Gucci Suit” by Rick Ross featuring Future, “Gucci Flip Flops” by Bhad Bhabie featuring Lil Yachty, “Gucci On My Bag” by Mier, “Gucci C__chie” by Die Antwood and Dita Von Teese, and “Waiting For The Stars” by Vitalic featuring David Shaw and The Beat.

For those who aren't aware yet, Balenciaga and Gucci are both owned by the Kering group.

So, this collaboration is 100% legit and undoubtedly lit.

Even Filipino fashion influencer Bryanboy was shookt when he watched the debut.

His IG caption reads, “Take. My. God damn. Money!!! NOW!!! Shook to the core.”
