Filipino designer Ryan Pacioles proud of creating Beyonce's dress in Dubai

By Kristian Eric Javier

Dubai-based Filipino designer Ryan Pacioles still feels overwhelmed about his opportunity to create an amazing dress for international superstar Beyoncé.

Ryan, the creative director of Atelier Zuhra, made the bright yellow feathered dress Beyoncé wore during her performance at the private party for Atlantis The Royal Resort in Dubai last January.

In an interview with Stronger Together: The GMA Pinoy TV Podcast, the Filipino designer shared the process of creating the magnificent dress for Queen B.

“Our PR company in US [asked] us to do a design for Beyoncé and they sent some references. And then after that, we did some sketches. Our team carefully thought of how we can make it based on the references they sent. We [presented] a few designs, and they approved the yellow gown,” he said.

Ryan added he did not only thought about the music mogul's style but he also considered comfort as it would be worn during a performance. The Filipino designer revealed, however, that he was not sure if the dress he made would be worn at all, “There's a few dresses that are ready for that night.”

Despite this Ryan still did all the technical requests and repairs from Beyoncé's team.

“Ang Queen B lang ang makakaalam kung anong pipiliin niyang suotin. So, expect the unexpected talaga,” he added.

According to Ryan, he was not watching the show live and it was only through a simple text of “We made it” from his CEO that he found out that Beyoncé chose his creation.

“Then, lumabas na sa mga influencer na may mga kuha pala sila. Alam mo 'yung you can't believe? Nakaka-overwhelm ang feeling,” he said.

Meanwhile, as someone who has created dresses and gowns worn by celebrities, the Filipino fashion designer admitted that the journey to fame was not easy.

He said, "You need to build it from scratch. You start creating unique pieces para ma-achieve mo 'yung expectation ng mga boss mo."

Ryan's tip for aspiring fashion designers, “Kailangan mo talagang ipakita 'yung uniqueness ng mga dress na gawa mo. Hindi typical na nakikita nila. You need to make it better para mapasok mo talaga 'yung gusto mo.”
