A big NO: Things people forget before heading to the gym

GMANetwork.com gathered pieces of advice from social media hotties Gerick Manalo, Julian Roxas, Tom Reuh Tacwigan, and Jason Dy Tan who shared their own personal struggles in staying fit and how they ultimately conquered it.

Avoiding food temptations

Fitness vlogger/ actor Julian Roxas's weakness is food. According to him, it is our nature as Filipinos that we can't say no when there is food right in front of us.

He suggested that to prevent yourself from thinking about food is you need to preoccupy yourself with other stuff like watching movies or as simple as sleeping early to avoid munching down a snack.

Having fun

Fitness advocate and influencer Tom Reuh Tacwigan reminds everyone not to take everything seriously especially when cutting down the extra pounds. He remembered he avoided a lot of food and decided not to go out with his friends, which he described as 'unhealthy.' He admitted that it was a mistake and learned that your lifestyle shouldn't suffer just to lose weight.

Tom explained, “I've only struggled with taking weight loss too seriously. I've avoided a lot of food and I went to the gym almost every day, said no to a lot of night out with friends, ate my boiled chicken breast and broccoli during family events.

“Saying no to my favorite food, I realized now that I was being too healthy that my lifestyle became unhealthy.

“Maybe because I wanted it so bad that nothing stopped me from losing weight. I forgot to have fun. Fitness should be fun. It shouldn't be a competition of how much someone can suffer.”

Time management

Chef and fitness buff Gerick Manalo shared he was struggling to keep himself fit because of his hectic schedule. He pointed out that your health must not take a back seat. In addition, getting enough sleep is vital and shouldn't be taken for granted.

“Keeping up with my busy schedule especially I just opened a new business, time management will always be a challenge. And sometimes priorities and important stuff will always come first before fitness, which is absolutely wrong.

“I've learned that no matter how busy you are building your success story, your health should be on your top list. The right amount of sleep is almost as important as achieving your correct weight.

“Balanced activities will make you more active all throughout. I plan most of my activities and maximize my day without making my body sacrifice.”

Former Mr. Chinatown contestant Jason Dy Tan echoed what Gerick said about the problem of time management. As a model and student, he also faced the same situation about fitting his gym time in his limited schedule.

He said, “Personally, my personal struggle in getting fit is balancing time between studies, modeling, and finding time to work out after class. I've realized if you want to be good at what you do, you will always find a way to make it work. So whenever I can squeeze in a workout between classes or weekend, I try to fit it in.”

No matter if you are struggling or not to stay fit and healthy, remember that staying focus on your goals will help a lot to overcome these obstacles.
