Try corned beef sisig in this American-style barbecue joint in Makati

Kapuso lifestyle program PopTalk visited the restaurant with host Tonipet Gaba, celebrity guest reviewer Annalyn Barro and chefs Mira Angeles and Mikel Zaguirre.

One of the most interesting dishes they tried is The Smoking Joint BBQ's corned beef sisig.

"'Yung corned beef nila, 'yung corned beef na traditional. Hindi 'yung mga de lata.

“When you say corned beef, it's how they salt it or cure it with salt.

“Kaya siya 'corned beef' kasi in the olden days they would use corns of salt.

“Corns, meaning blocks of salt, kaya siya corned beef.

“It was actually corns of salt that they use in the beef," Kuya Tonipet explained.

Chef Mikel was very impressed by the dish as it was both creative and practical.

"Very innovative. Instead of using pork, [they used] beef.

“Ngayon, name-make na 'yung corned beef as creative as possible--nagiging sisig.

“Sobrang galing, kasi sila mismo gumawa ng corned beef nila.

“'Yung mga trimmings nila, pinu-put nila into good use by having a dish like sisig. Walang tapon," he says of the dish.
