Iskolar ng Bayan eats that are open for deliveries

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Last week, we listed a few campus favorites from the University of Santo Tomas that made every Growling Tiger proud.

Today we're heading to Diliman to share with you an assortment of food offerings straight from the main campus of the University of the Philippines.

Whether you are a Fighting Maroon alumnus or a visitor of the campus, UP Diliman offers a variety of food choices thanks to its 1,220 acres of land area. You name it, they have it -- food stalls, restaurants, carinderias, etc. Maybe that's the key to their success in their academic life? Good food.

In this list, we round up the several stalls and restaurants that are open for take-out and delivery:

1. Rodic's Diner

You don't need to be a graduate of UP Diliman to hear the name of "Rodic's Diner."

Thanks to their consistent quality of breakfast favorites, this dine-in restaurant located in the campus' Shopping Center has become a student must-visit. Their version of the tapsilog has always been a crowd favorite and never fails to put a smile on every customer's face.

Show your support by ordering your favorite Rodic's meal and calling (02) 8921-7361. They are also available through GrabFood so you're sure to get your tapsilog fix whenever.

2. Mang Larry's Isawan

No list is complete without a famous isawan and for UP students, Mang Larry's is the way to go. Mang Larry's was tentatively closed during the quarantine but thankfully re-opened for take-out orders for customers who'd like to try his rendition of the famous street food.

His menu remains affordable, only selling from PhP 12 to PhP 30 per stick. You may also pre-order frozen versions of the pork barbeque and tenga for PhP 300 and PhP 150, respectively. To make an advance order, simply text the numbers 0925-384-5965 or 0945-836-5250 and look for Andrea.

3. Siomai ni Mang Nestor

Famous for his stall located at the College of Fine Arts, Mang Nestor opened “Mang Nestor Delivery” to continue serving food to his returning customers during the pandemic. From quick eats like siomai and shanghai to desserts like banana and yema cake, Mang Nestor is open to cater to your hunger anytime.

Simply text 0961-0755-810 and look for Maribel de Leon. Orders must be made one to two days before pick-up and should meet the PhP 200 minimum order amount.

4. Jing's Lutong Bahay

Another UP Diliman classic is Nanay Jing's Lutong Bahay that offers quality food at the cheapest price. Every morning, she shares the menu of the day on her official Facebook page that ranges from classic dishes to international cuisines.

You may order your meals through Jing's Lutong Bahay Facebook page and meet her 1 p.m. cut off time. If you're within the UP Campus and the UP Village, you're in luck because deliveries are free.

5. ArkiVickie Foodhouse

UP Diliman's very own ArkiVickie offers home-made snacks all day, every day. Their best-selling egg siomai, which retails for PhP 150 for a tub of 10, is a crowd favorite among UP graduates. You can also try their Pandan Milk Tea, also known as PanTea, during the quarantine!

To order, simply send them a message through their official Facebook page.

Next week, we'll be crossing the border to the home of the Ateneo Blue Eagles for their quarantine food crawl. Stay tuned!
