The theme for World Food Day changes yearly to focus on different issues that need action such as food security, rural poverty, malnutrition, climate change, and sustainable food systems. For the year 2020, the theme is “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together.”

And what better way to celebrate this year's World Food Day than to buy food from local farmers, right?

Check out below the list of online markets in the Philippines which support local food heroes.

Session Groceries

Session Groceries is an online store that delivers fresh produce from Benguet farms straight to app users' doorsteps. They have daily delivery service in NCR, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna and in some parts of Bulacan.

Fresh Buys PH

Online market site Fresh Buys PH brings fresh and organic fruits and vegetables from the mountains of Cordillera to consumers in Manila, with a goal of elevating agriculture in Cordillera and making the prices of produce lower for consumers in Manila.

eKadiwa

The eKadiwa, an online version of the Kadiwa market, was launched by the Department of Agriculture (DA) last May. The e-commerce platform was established with the help of the private sector, in order to connect consumers to agripreneurs and make affordable local farm and fishery products more accessible during the quarantine period.

Rural Rising PH

Rural Rising PH is a social enterprise that aims to ensure food security, drive economic opportunity to local farmers, and achieve environmental healing through sustainable practices. They have an online marketplace in their website where consumers can buy produce from local farmers from different parts of the country.

Bagsakan Farmers Market

A group of farmers called Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Bulacan Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas is bringing their harvest to Manileños through their Facebook page named Bagsakan Farmers Market.

Consumers may place their orders online through their FB page and expect orders to be delivered two days after the cut-off, or they may also pickup their orders. At the moment, they are only accepting online orders once a month.

They also sell their produce in physical locations in Quezon City. Follow them on Facebook so you can be updated on the specific dates and locations.

With these online market options, it should be easy enough to make it a habit to buy local produce. Keep in mind that with every purchase, you do not only get fresh fruits and veggies, but you also get to support the livelihood of Filipino food heroes.
