Five recipes from Richard Gomez, ranked from easiest to hardest

By Marah Ruiz

Actor and politician Richard Gomez has been very active in his YouTube channel in 2020.

He launched an online series called Goma at Home last May where he shared bits and bobs of his home life in Ormoc City.

He has given his subscribers a peek of his sprawling home where they have a vegetable garden, fruit trees, animals like chicken and geese, and even a honey bee farm right in their backyard.

Richard has also shared many of his personal recipes while cooking from his beautiful outdoor kitchen.

His wife and fellow politician Lucy Torres and his daughter Juliana have also made appearances in a few of his videos.

Richard's special guest stars sometimes help him with cooking or simply enjoy the food he lovingly prepared.

We have picked a few of our favorite recipes from Goma at Home and ranked them by level of difficulty.

1. Lemon garlic pasta
Difficulty level: 1/5

Richard's lemon garlic pasta is a nice dish with very simple ingredients.

It is an easy meal to make when you have unexpected guests over or if you want a quick lunch or a light dinner.

It can be cooked in one-pot in less than 30 minutes.

2. Hummus
Difficulty level: 2/5

The recipe is pretty straightforward and just requires you to mix everything together.

It is only made slightly more difficult by the fact that you need a food processor, a kitchen appliance that not many Filipinos have in their kitchen.

Other than that, the process of removing the skins from the garbanzos or chickpeas, whether they have been boiled fresh or from a can, is very meticulous and time-consuming.

3. Polvoron
Difficulty level: 3/5

Polvoron requires you to toast flour in a hot skillet for about 30 minutes while constantly stirring to keep it from burning.

Toasting the flour gives that distinct nutty flavor to the polvoron.

Once you finish that step, the rest of the recipe is easy and just requires you to put everything together and mix.

4. Paella
Difficulty level: 4/5

We are ranking this high on the difficulty level because it is hard to procure real saffron, the world's most expensive spice.

Richard also uses a paellera, or a shallow pan where paella is usually cooked and served, which not a lot of people have.

He does provide alternatives like cooking the paella on the stove or with an oven.

5. Lechon belly
Difficulty level: 5/5

It seems apt that this very festive dish ranks high on the difficulty level.

Making the lechon belly requires multitude of steps, from rolling the pork and trussing it up to boiling and blanching it before popping it in the oven.

Once in the oven, the lechon belly needs constant checking and turning every 15 minutes while adjusting and changing the oven temperature to get the skin to be crispy.
