The Taste of Czaczacza

These hearty meals and desserts from 'The Taste Of Czaczacza' will make you go cha-cha-cha!

Have you ever tasted a food so delicious, you wanted to dance?

That is the goal of The Taste of Czaczcza located in Marikina City.

According to its owner, Chef Czarina Jagto-Sevilla, they started as a home-based business selling special cakes to customers, but eventually became a full dessert shop and café during the time of the pandemic.

“Actually, 'yung cafe namin started last July 10, 2020,” she told Pop Talk.

“We were supposed to open the cafe last March of 2020 kaso, sad to say, naudlot because of the pandemic. But 'di kami nagpadala sa lockdown na 'yun kasi nagpatuloy pa rin kami online.”

Despite the changing times, the opening pushed through while adhering to the safety protocols set by the government to ensure their customers and staff are safe from the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)

Chef Czarina explained, “What we did was we embraced the new normal which is safety protocols, limit ng pagpapadine-in sa loob ng restaurant because of social distancing.

“We also encourage our customers [order in advance] para pagdating nila, ready na 'yung food for dine in or pick up.”

In an episode of Pop Talk, host Tonipet Gaba invited celebrity chef Jose Sarasola to try out the cafe's bestsellers.

Here's what the celebrity chef had to say:

1. Seafood pasta - ★★★★

What is it: Linguini pasta in marinara sauce with shrimps, mussels, and squid.

Chef Jose's Verdict: “Well first, it comes in a very nice packaging.

“The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce is just right. Plus, can I just add na 'yung seafood sobrang fresh. Kasi if you're gonna make a seafood pasta, number one talaga ay dapat fresh ang seafood na ilalagay mo.”

2. Caldereta pasta - ★★★★★

What is it: Filipino beef stew-inspired pasta

Chef Jose's Verdict: “Talagang gastronomical ito kasi may halong culture ng mga Pinoy. Actually kung may meatball pasta ang Italians, parang ito 'yung version natin kasi it's made of beef nga, so perfect ito as pasta. Good job on the pastas. Great job, guys.”

3. Pan-seared salmon in teriyaki sauce - ★★★★

What is it: Pan-seared salmon fillet paired with blue pea rice and mixed buttered vegetables

Chef Jose's Verdict: “Wow! It comes with a very light sauce. The fish is perfect kasi 'di siya dry and overcooked. Maganda rin ang plating nito since the colors make it very fun to eat.”

4. Strawberry shortcake - ★★★★★

What is it: Their best-selling classic moist strawberry shortcake

Chef Jose's Verdict: “Since lover ako ng strawberries, I think this is the perfect way to end the meal. 'Yung pagka-sponge ng cake n'ya very fluffy rin siya and ganun siya kalambot. 'Di siya masyadong matamis.”
