1 of 6

Prescription medicines

It's a must to bring your prescriptions or maintenance medications with you wherever you go. You should also bring a travelers' diarrhea antibiotic, altitude sickness medicine, and malaria prevention medicine. Secure a letter from your doctor on letterhead stationery, so you could also bring a suture/syringe kit, for use by local health care provider.

Medical supplies

It's always a good idea to take with you extra glasses or contact lenses, just in case the ones you're using get damaged. For diabetic patients, bring insulin, needles/syringes, and diabetes testing supplies. It is also recommended to pack an Epinephrine auto-injectors (EpiPens) and medical alert bracelet or necklace.

Supplies to prevent illness or injury

Avoid getting infected by viruses and bacteria by using hand sanitizer/wipes, face mask, and water purification tablets. You can also keep insects from biting you by using insect repellent spray or lotion, permtherin-treated clothing, and a bed net. Protect your skin from harmful UV rays with sunscreen lotion, sunglasses, and a hat. You should also bring personal safety equipment like earplugs, child safety seats and bicycle helmets. You should also bring latex condoms to avoid sexually transmitted diseases.
