This wellness coach used to weigh 245 lbs

By Marah Ruiz

As a teen, Xynal Panganiban used to be the butt of jokes in school because of his weight. At his heaviest, he weighed 245 lbs.

His classmates often compared him to Majin Buu, a character from the popular manga and anime Dragon Ball.

"Habang tumatagal, bumababa 'yung self-confidence ko. Hindi na 'ko masaya doon sa itsura ko kasi lagi na lang tampulan 'yung itsura ko, 'yung katawan ko," he says of the bullying he endured.

Because he wanted to be able to do more in his life, he decided to change.

"One day nagising ako, humarap ako sa salamin. Tinatanong ko 'yung sarili ko kung masaya ba 'ko doon as itsura ko. Ang dami ko pang gustong gawin pero parang hindi ko na magagawa kasi nga 'yung kalagayan ko or 'yung itsura ko hindi na maganda para sa isang kabataan," Xynal says.

He took inspiration from the same cartoon character his classmates often teased him with.

"Kung may Majin Buu na mataba, so kailangan ma-motivate ako na kung may isang version na payat, doon ako sa mas payat," he shares.

Xynal concentrated on regular workouts which are fast-paced. These exercises increase the heart rate which burns fats and calories. He also avoided his bad habit of snacking.

He now weighs 160 lbs--the ideal weight for his height of 5 feet 8 inches. He now also works as a wellness coach.

Xynal has definitely come a long way. Watch his inspiring story in this feature from Pinoy MD:
