On a high: Where to go rock-climbing in the metro

There's no better feeling than being on a high. And you can achieve that level of euphoria when you go rock-climbing!

Rock-climbing is a sport where participants climb natural rock formations or artificial surfaces made of wood and other materials. Climbers use specialized equipment and climbing techniques to go up, down or across these surfaces.

Rock-climbing in the outdoors is an amazing feat. But if you can't afford to head to the crags, you can always get your climbing fix in the metro.

Power Up Climbing Gyms

The first indoor climbing gym in the Philippines was founded at Power Up, specifically at its Tandang Sora branch in Quezon City in 1994. Being one of the pioneers in vertical sports in the country, Power Up also maintains two more branches -- one situated inside Centro Atletico in North Road, Cubao, and the other one found inside the R.O.X. store in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Power Up Climbing Gyms offer top-rope climbing, bouldering, lead climbing, and occasional speed-climbing.

Climb Central Manila

A climbing facility that began in Singapore, Climb Central Manila opened in 2016 and is considered the biggest indoor and air-conditioned sport climbing venue in the country. It encourages participants of different climbing levels and backgrounds to try their 49 lines for top-rope climbing, auto-belay system, and boulder wall.

Climb Central Manila is located at The Portal, Greenfield District, Highway Hills in Mandaluyong.

Edge Climb Gym

Edge Climb Gym is the closest you can get to climbing outdoors because of its tall walls situated al fresco. With the breeze blowing and a view beyond the four walls of a typical gym, scaling its walls via top-rope or lead-climbing surely feels like an actual rock trip.

Edge Climb Gym is situated at The Upper Deck in Pasig.

Camp Sandugo

Located inside a mall, Camp Sandugo poses a challenge not only for experienced climbers but also invites shoppers and moviegoers to try the sport. The facility offers top-rope climbing, and lets you climb free of charge if you just want to try climbing across the walls at the floor level.

Camp Sandugo is found inside Market! Market! in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Maic's Gym

Maic's Gym is a multi-sport facility that offers body-building, boxing, martial arts, spinning, CrossFit training, and, you know it, indoor wall-climbing. For the same fee, gym-goers at Maic's get to try climbing along with the other sports.

Maic's Gym is located at Pikador St. corner Ditchoy St. Midtown Subdivision Phase 1, San Roque, Marikina City.

Now that you know where to go, grab your sportswear and head out! It's time to get high and conquer new heights!
