LOOK: Kyline Alcantara opens up about struggle with acne in self-love post

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Kapuso actress Kyline Alcantara has recently revealed her struggle with acne and how it affects both her line of work and mental state in a tell-all post on Instagram.

Yesterday, October 7, the actress posted a series of selfies sans the makeup for all the world to see.

According to the actress, her acne breakout started March of 2018.

She wrote, “It started with one zit, and then it became two until I can't count them anymore.

“Imagine people are always expecting you to be at your best, to look perfect, to look like the polished girl that they always see in TV and magazines, but you can't even look at yourself in the mirror.”

She revealed that she was afraid of the backlash she gets for putting too much cosmetics on her face to conceal her breakouts.

“I was bashed and bullied for putting too much makeup (people telling me na ang kapal ng makeup mo pero puro ka pa din tigyawat) during that time but what they don't know is makeup lang 'yung kakampi ko noon.”

A trip to the dermatologist later and she found out that what may seem to work for others may not work for her.

“She told me na I have a very sensitive skin na nagre-react differently from the products that I used based dun sa mga napapanood ko na skin care routines sa YouTube.

“Meaning, don't expect na nag-work sa iba ay magwo-work din sa 'yo.”

She ended the post with a powerful message about accepting yourself and your flaws.

“Don't stress yourself over something to be perfect because it will not come.

“Accept your uniqueness and use it to your advantage and represent yourself proudly thru it.

“Don't let the norm and society dictate what you should feel and look. Be your own unique you.

“Love the imperfectly perfect you. Have confidence and love yourself.”

Her post perfectly resonates the message of her upcoming film Black Lipstick, which opens tomorrow, October 9.

The movie underscores the importance of self-love and acceptance among millennials amid the pressures of social media.

Kyline plays the role of Ikay, a young teen who suffers from vitiligo, a skin condition where pale white patches develop on the skin due to lack of melanin.
