Quezon City opens Bring Your Own Bottle store to tackle plastic pollution in the city

Staying true to their commitment to saving the environment, the Quezon City government recently launched its first BYOB store or Bring Your Own Bottle store, in efforts to address the plastic pollution in the city.

In October 15, 2019, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte signed Ordinance No. SP-2876, which prohibits the distribution and use of all single use plastics or disposable materials.

The BYOB store is actually a refilling station where QC residents can bring their own clean, reusable bottles or containers and refill them with condiments such as vinegar and soy sauce at an affordable price.

It was made possible by the Small Business and Cooperatives Development Promotions Office (SBCDPO) of the QC government, in partnership with NutriAsia Inc. and the QC Environment Protection and Waste Management Department.

The zero-waste facility is made out of eco-bricks and also has a plastic collection drop box for used plastic bottles, sachets, containers, and other plastic materials.

The BYOB store is open from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. It is located inside the Quezon City Hall compound, so it's very accessible to local residents.
