Chynna Ortaleza on body-shaming comments: 'People have scars and we do not want to add on to it.'

Actress Chynna Ortaleza is no stranger to hate comments, most especially when it comes to her body.

As someone who weighs roughly “89 to 90 pounds” at the age of 38, the Idol sa Kusina star reveals that dealing with the negativity she receives on her social media platforms has taken a toll on her physical wellbeing.

“Do you know that comments that are put out there without any ill intention in mind can be scarring?” she asked on Instagram yesterday, February 15.

“You may wonder how can that be? They may bring up past wounds. Most especially if they are repeated over and over as if to make you believe that there is something so terribly wrong with oneself.”

According to Chynna, throughout her whole showbiz career, she's always heard of comments about her weight and petite frame.

These remarks include, “Ay ang payat mo,” “Anorexic ka ba?,” “Kumain ka naman para ka nang liliparin ng hangin,” and so much more.

“It is a very vicious cycle,” she said.

“And yes, even people who, like me, were born with a metabolism so fast we burn calories like a boss need to share.

“The concern is much appreciated, but then again, the way it is said is something that needs to be talked about.”

Chynna advised her fans and netizens to be mindful of their intentions when making a remark because “people have scars and we do not want to add on to it.

“It's been a struggle for me to feel that I meet the seal of approval, as they say. But really, who does?”

She added, “You have the ability to transform lives through the use of tone and words. Speak kindly to yourself and one another. Yes, even if it's a hard subject to chew on, it can still be done with respect and empowerment.”

As for herself, the mom-of-two revealed that she would refrain from listening to the hateful comments and start being aware of what her body needs to be kinder to herself.

“I am 38 years old, straddling the 89 to 90 lbs mark because I have decided to listen to my body and let food be thy medicine,” she committed.

“My dream is to continue to be a force of a woman to my children, husband, and all humans that I will be blessed to cross paths with. So I want to heal myself to be able to heal other people as well.

“Thank you to those who are kind enough to ask me how I am. All is well.”
