Tom Rodriguez emerges from social media hiatus; shares COVID-19 experience

By Bong Godinez

Kapuso actor Tom Rodriguez opened up about his battle with COVID-19, citing it as the reason for his sudden absence on social media.

“I was taking some time off and trying to recover, because I had tested positive for COVID-19,” Tom said in a video he posted on Instagram.

“I was quarantined for a little over four weeks. It took a while before I was deemed clinically recovered.”

Tom revealed that he contracted the virus out of town while shooting a movie.

He initially tested negative based on the result of an antigen swab test.

Tom's fiancée, actress Carla Abellana, however, advised him to take a PCR test before heading back home to Manila.

Carla's suggestion proved to be wise and sound as Tom tested positive for the coronavirus according to the second test.

“Buti na lang I took her advice and hindi muna kami nagkita, so there's no chance I infected her.

"I tested positive and I've clinically recovered for mga over a week,” shared Tom.

The 33-year-old actor experienced “manageable” symptoms including fever, cough, and tightness of the chest.

He recalled, “Fortunately, I didn't have any loss of smell and taste so I was able to eat and boost my immune system that way.”

Tom is currently in quarantine in a hotel in preparation for a TV project.

He took an antigen test but intends to take another PCR test to be sure and before heading to a lock-in taping.

Tom made news this week after his and Carla's wedding banns went viral after it was posted by the San Guillermo Parish in Talisay, Batangas.

It is common for churches to post in public such banns containing personal information about the couple to avoid legal complications before the wedding date.

Carla and Tom got engaged in October last year and publicized it in March.
