Maxene Magalona on how meditation helps with her Complex PTSD

By Ron Lim

Maxene Magalona opened up to her Instagram followers as to how she deals with her Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

On an Instagram post she uploaded on World Mental Health Day, Maxene shared how her psychiatrist diagnosed her with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder a couple of years ago. According to Maxene, because she had grown up not being allowed to express her feelings, she ended up not knowing how to handle them and had unhealthy coping mechanisms.

“As a result, I turned to alcohol and partying for years just to numb myself,” she wrote.

The turning point came when Maxene started yoga and meditation. With the two practices, she says she was able to face her inner struggles and “hold space for all the repressed emotions” she had been keeping inside her.

Along with advice from her therapist, Maxene says she has finally learned to love herself from the inside out. She also shared how her morning ritual of yoga and meditation aligns her mind, body, and spirit and helps her realize she is more than just her thoughts and emotions.

These practices, according to Maxene, help her to face every day fearlessly because she believes that she is “guided and protected.”

“I trust and surrender to the Universe. I am not here to complain, judge or hate. I am here to be grateful for every breath that is so precious and for God's encompassing love that embraces me and keeps me safe. Seriously, what more can I ask for?” she writes.

In the comments section, model Kelly Misa and actress Alessandra de Rossi showed some love for Maxene. Kelly said that the post was inspiring, while Alessandra simply said “I love you.”

This isn't the first time that Maxene opened up about her personal life on her Instagram account. On the anniversary of her father Francis M's birthday, Maxene shared a story about how much her father had a sincere love of pets.

She shared a heartbreaking story about Gringo, a Chihuahua that was Francis' favorite pet. According to her, Gringo was always beside her father.

“On the day he passed away, he took his last breath as he circled around Papa's feet and laid himself to rest beside his favorite human,” she wrote.
