Maritoni Fernandez is thankful for surviving cancer

By Kristian Eric Javier

Actress and breast cancer survivor Maritoni Fernandez could not help but be thankful for being able to survive the illness and live well and healthily.

In an Instagram post earlier today, September 14, Maritoni posted a picture of her standing next to a mammography machine. Mammography is a method used for breast X-ray exams to check early signs of cancer or any other diseases.

In the post, Maritoni mentioned how her bi-annual tomography “is like clockwork” and admits that while she's anxious doing these, she has learned to see that it is good for her.

“As a survivor….so you never forget what you've been through or take your health for granted,” she said.

She also added how being a survivor despite her age and the current pandemic has given her the term “health is wealth” a new meaning.

“Every single day is a blessing, borrowed time if you will. Every survivor understands,” she said.

“Thank you Jesus for every extra hour, day, month, year, and decade. Life is truly a gift,” she added, before expressing how grateful she is for the chance given to her.

Maritoni then ended her post by giving the advice to drink barley every day as it really helped her to become healthier.

In 2013, Maritoni shared her journey of learning about her breast cancer, as well as surviving it. She revealed that she felt the lump as early as when she was 28 but was not immediately diagnosed.

She then mentioned how she originally wanted to take her mom to a doctor but after the false alarm, she decided to get a second opinion for herself.

Then, in 2020, she announced that she has been cancer-free for more than 20 years after her cancer treatments had stopped. She then reminded others to be vigilant with their health and to make sure to get regularly checked.

Maritoni isn't the only celebrity who battled cancer and won. Take a look at some of the cancer-surviving celebrities:
