Motocross has long been part of the active lifestyle of Kapuso actor Jason Abalos.

Jason Abalos

He was introduced to the sport soon after he took up mountain biking in 2010. He adds that it was part of his efforts to live a healthier life.

"Nagsimula 'to kasi 2010, medyo tumigil ako sa pag-gimik. Sabi ko kailangan ko ng kakaibang lifestyle. Nagsimula akong mag-bike. 'Pag naba-bike ako, titigil ako sa kakalabas kasi kailangan mo ng energy kinabukasan," he says in an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com.

He was fortunate enough to meet the right people and soon learned to ride dirt bikes.

"Nag-try ako mag Enduro hanggang sa na-meet ko 'yung mga tao sa Motocross na kumakarera. Natuto na 'ko sa race track. Nagtuluy-tuloy na," he shares.

Jason also wants to clarify that while Motocross seems like a dangerous sport, one can enjoy it with the proper precautions.

"Gusto kong i-promote 'yung Motocross sa Pilipinas. Isa siyang napaka gandang sport. Kaya lang talaga nagiging delikado kung walang proper training tapos 'yung gears mo kulang," he explains.

He says it pays to invest in the proper protective gear.

"Ang una talagang ini-invest namin bago mag-motor, 'yung gears--magandang boots, magandang knee brace, helmet, mga chest protector, gloves," he lists.

The controlled environment of Motocross also makes is relatively safer than open roads.

"Mas nauna 'kong nagkaroon ng dirt bike kesa road bike kasi mas takot ako sa kalsada kesa sa race track. 'Yung race track, kontrolado mo 'yung environment. 'Yung road wala eh. Maraming pasaway na driver na mae-encounter mo araw araw," Jason muses.

Aside from Motocross, Jason still enjoys doing long rides on his road bike as well as mountain biking.
