David Licauco on education: 'A balance of passion and practicality'
Before David Licauco graced our TV screens with his charming good looks and six-pack abs, he was also just a student at the College of Saint Benilde taking up a Business Management course.
Now that back-to-school season is coming up, the former student-athlete shares with GMANetwork.com the importance of education. Something he admits, he took for granted when he was still in college.
“Sobrang importante ng school at education,” he says.
“And honestly, when I was in college and in high school, I took it for granted. Kasi noon feel ko 'di ko naman siya kailangan.
“Pero when I graduated at may nami-meet akong mga tao na sobrang talino, naisip ko na sana inaral ko rin yan.
“So, I guess on my personal experience, mas okay na talagang mag-aral nang mabuti at magbasa ng libro kasi ang dami niyong mami-meet na matatalino sa buhay and ayaw mo namang magmukhang ignorante, 'di ba?”
Now that he's a little bit older and wiser, the Kapuso actor gives a practical tip on how to choose a college course this school year.
“For me kasi, I used to think na gawin mo 'yung gusto mo. Pero siyempre kailangan mo rin i-consider 'yung future mo and 'yung gusto mo.
“Siyempre in the long run kailangan natin kumita ng pera. Kailangan nating maging practical. So I guess kailangan mong i-balance 'yung personal wants and practical side mo.
“Kasi pwede mo siyang parehong gawin e.
“Kung gusto mong magluto pero ang demand mag-computer science. I'm not saying na 'wag mong i-pursue 'yung culinary arts but you could still do it on the side.”
