What the annular solar eclipse this December 26, 2019 means in astrology

By Racquel Quieta

Just a day after Christmas, the universe is giving us another gift-an astronomical treat we won't be able to resist---an annular solar eclipse! According to PAGASA, the eclipse will begin in Metro Manila around 12:32 pm, will peak at 2:19 pm, and end at 3:47 pm.

While the best place to view the solar eclipse is in parts of Mindanao like Davao Occidental, it will still be visible in other parts of the country as a partial solar eclipse.

Old beliefs

Since ancient times, humans have tried to make sense of how and why solar eclipses occur. It has caused fear in many and has led to several misconceptions and superstitions in many cultures.

The Greeks considered a solar eclipse as a sign that the gods were angry and that disasters and destruction were about to happen.

While in India, they believe that food cooked during a solar eclipse is poisonous, that's why they resort to fasting.

And there's also a popular belief in many parts of the world that solar eclipses can bring harm to pregnant women and young children. That's why they're advised to stay indoors while the eclipse takes place.

But fast-forward to now, the modern times, we know for certain that solar eclipses have nothing to do with death, disasters, and destruction. Thanks to science, we know now that solar eclipses occur because the earth, the sun, and the moon are aligned. And since the moon is in the center of the sun and the earth, it covers the sun's center or solar disk and casts a shadow toward earth.

What solar eclipses mean in astrology

In astrology, they associate planetary activities with possible events that may happen either to the world as a whole or to individuals, depending on their birth charts.

There are some who don't believe in astrology at all and consider it as a pseudoscience. But there are also some who testify that astrological forecasts, based on planetary alignments, have accurately predicted or explained why and how certain events in their lives have unfolded.

So, whether you're into astrology or just reading this out of curiosity, we will explain to you the significance of the solar eclipse happening today, December 26, 2019.

You probably heard or read some things about eclipses bringing about bad omens, but in astrology, this is not necessarily true. A lot of factors have to be considered, like in what zodiac sign does the solar eclipse occur and what are the other activities happening in the sky.

In general, solar eclipses signal powerful new beginnings. This is because a solar eclipse is basically a revved-up new moon, and a new moon is an auspicious time to start anything. So, that makes the last eclipse of the year -and the decade--the perfect time to initiate a project or to begin a new phase in our lives.

And there's more good news! The solar eclipse is happening next to Jupiter, the great benefic and planet of expansion, and above all, the giver of gifts. So, it will definitely have a positive influence on the eclipse.
