Richard Gomez shares how he harvests honey in a new vlog

By Marah Ruiz

In a special episode of his online cooking series Goma at Home, actor and politician Richard Gomez chronicled how he harvests and processes honey from the small bee farm he has at the back of his home in Ormoc.

He enlists the help of beekepers Gerhard and Maricris.

"We're here to day at the back of our home. We're about to harvest those precious honey," he says in the beginning of his video.

He says the first step is to smoke to bees to avoid getting stung.

"We'll begin by calming down the bees using our smoker. That way, it relaxes them and they don't become aggressive," he explains.

Richard, Gerhard and Maricris also use a centrifugal extractor to preserve the honeycomb when extracting the honey before filtering it to remove impurities.

"This is the sixth year, Richard, no, that we harvest honey? Every year, and the first time not so many but now you can say it's not bad huh?" Gerhard says.

They then put the honey in sterilized bottles to give away to their friends.

He even showed the box which was personally designed by his wife and fellow politician Lucy Torres.

"You'll see it when it's finished, it has stickers on it. Lucy made all of it," he says.

Richards previously gave a short glimpse of the honey bee farm which he keeps in the back of his home in Ormoc in a previous vlog.

He also used the harvested honey to sweeten kamias juice, a recipe he has also previously shared in Goma at Home.
