How to organize your workstation at home

By Jansen Ramos

Let's admit it, we struggle to be productive if our work area is a mess because a work environment can have an effect on our energy, creativity, and focus.

That's why it's important that we should start arranging our work space, especially since most of us will be working from home for a pretty long time.

Good thing, New Normal: The Survival Guide series titled "Home Work" is here to help us with our dilemma as the program invited freelance licensed interior designer and event stylist, Irene Pascual, to share tips on how to make our workspace at home aesthetically conducive for working.

Use earth tone and cool colors around the work space

According to Irene, using earth tone and cool colors around the work space can keep us more productive and creative at work because they are easy on the eyes and help keep stress levels down.

She said, "'Yung mga blue, greens, purple, 'tapos depende sa shade [na gusto mo] if not so vibrant, pwedeng 'di masyadong matingkad tapos 'yung mga earthy tones nga na beige, white, grays, 'yan 'yung mga best color to use around you sa work space mo."

Irene added that it's also important to place our work station near the window so we can have good ventilation and proper lighting.

Decorate work space with plants

Plants are not just for display because they serve a purpose especially in a work environment.

But for those who haven't jumped on the indoor plant trend yet, artificial plants can be placed in the work desk as well for they have the same effect--mood-boosting--as the real ones, the interior designer and event stylist said.

"Kung artificial plants naman, wala namang problema kasi 'yung psychological effect no'n is to reduce the stress just by mere seeing the plant," Irene uttered. "May similar effect din s'ya."

Invest in a good office chair

As we limit the times of going out, all we use for our work-from-home arrangement is anything that can be found at home like a stool. While this is valid, Irene still recommends workers based at home to invest in a good office chair with back support.

She said, "'Yung stool is not really conducive for work environment.

"Eventually, mangalay at mangangalay [ka rin], so I suggest kahit palitan na lang natin ng any other type of seating na may sandalan."

Seek help from an interior designer

Since we'll be working from home for quite a while, seeking an interior designer's help won't hurt.

"By seeking a professional help from an interior designer, mas ma-maximize natin 'yung potential of a certain space.

"And not only because of that, maraming factors na dapat i-consider not just like space planning, but also 'yung psychological and emotional effect no'n para rin ma-maiximize 'yung potential mo as a person."
