Air plants for creating 'green space' in your home

By Dianara Alegre

Is your space becoming more and more crowded with your plant babies yet you still want to add more to your collection?

Worry no more because you can still nurture plants that consume less space and that are easy to care for.

You can buy air plants which grow, well, in the air. No soil is required at all. Because they don't need to grow in soil, they can be displayed anywhere and any way you want.

Also, air plants look great on their own, and without much effort on your part, these plants can help you add fun and unique greenery to your space.

There are hundreds of species and varieties of air plants, and we've come up with a list to help you decide which air plant best suits your needs.

1. Tillandsia Cotton Candy

According to plant hobbyist Dr. Diana Tolentino, Tillandsia Cotton Candy is the most common and most popular air plant species. It is the most attractive type for millennials because it bears pink flowers.

Streptophylla is one of the collector's items and a bit pricey than the others. These curly and irregular air plants can grow 10 inches in diameter. They are also called the “queen” of air plants.

4. Spanish Moss

The Spanish Moss is easy to grow and much less complicated to care for. Because of its unique, thin, and string-like feature, a bunch of Spanish Moss seldom becomes a nest for birds. They are also air purifiers.

5. Brachycaulos

Brachycaulos is one of the most popular air plants mostly because it can grow 10 inches in diameter, and it's fast to propagate, too. It is a stunning air plant with thick, strong, and vibrant leaves.
