Minecraft emerged as the most-watched game on YouTube for the year 2020.

This was according to the annual gaming report released by YouTube Culture and Trends to summarize gaming-related content performance on the platform from last year.

In total, over 100 billion hours were spent watching gaming content on YouTube.

Minecraft garnered most of that pie with over 201 billion views, followed by Roblox with 75 billion views.

Garena Free Fire settled at third with 72 billion views, while Grand Theft Auto V and Fortnite cornered the fourth and fifth spots with 70 and 67 billion views, respectively.

The year 2020 was YouTube Gaming's biggest year thus far with “100B watch time hours and 40M+ active gaming channels,” said YouTube Head of Global Gaming, Ryan Watt.

Meanwhile, the platform has also unveiled the top ten creators based on gaming views throughout 2020.

These are FGTeeV, Jelly, Flamingo, Robin Hood Gamer, ItsFunnneh, LazarBeam, Slogo, Mikecrack, Arab Games Network, and Vegetta777.

The report noted that 80,000 content creators hit 100,000 subscribers and with more than 1,000 creators reaching the 5 million subscribers mark.

Over 350 creators, on the other hand, gathered 10 million subscribers.

“Creators across the board have seen massive increases in subscribers, audiences and viewership throughout 2020,” mentioned Watt.

“One incredible example of growth in 2020 is Minecraft content creator Dream, who saw channel subscriptions surge from 1 million in January 2020 to over 13 million by October the same year. The channel's speedrunning series drew in tens of millions of views each.”

The report also highlighted the altruism present in the gaming community.

“We've also seen gaming creators give back in incredible ways this year. The gaming community has always been willing to lend a helping hand when needed. This year, many of YouTube's gaming creators and partnership tournaments raised awareness and money for several causes,” Watt mentioned.

“Jacksepticeye raising over $660,000 in 12 hours for Covid-19 relief efforts, while CouRage raised over $500,000 during a 12-hour charity stream for the CDC Foundation.”

He further added, “YouTube Gaming hosted charity tournaments around the world, including: the Call of Duty Warzone tournament in May, with a $100,000 donation on behalf of the winning team for the Call of Duty Endowment.

“The Torneo de Creadores de YouTube Gaming in Mexico, where YouTube donated $50,000 USD to Cruz Roja Mexicana on behalf of the winner.

“Eddie SKabeche; the mobile gaming celebration in August, tied to VidCon Now, where KairosTime and Lex Brawl Stars took a $50,000 prize to benefit the World's Health Organization; and in October, the Fall Guys Season 2 tournament with a $100,000 donation benefiting the United Nations Children's Fund on behalf of the winning team, Typical Gamer and Avxry.”

He also mentioned the recent charity live stream event conducted by The Game Theorists' MatPat and Stephanie Patrick for the benefit of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

“They tripled their goal and raised $3 million with the help of other large creators and gamers like Markiplier, The Game Grumps, Mr. Beast, and more.”
