Brandon Boyd unveils art collection collab with Heart Evangelista

By Racquel Quieta

Remember that art collab that Heart Evangelista teased in May? Well, Brandon Boyd just unveiled the much-awaited collective art project, which includes his and Heart's artworks.

In an Instagram post, Brandon shared photos of some of the stunning masterpieces included in the art collection of Moonlight Arts Collective called “volume 1: coming soon.”

Other visual artists whose artworks are part of the collection are American composer Mark Mothersbaugh, Saturday Night Live actress and stand-up comedian Melisaa Villaseñor, Arrested Development actress Alia Shawkat, and commercial and fine-art photographer Brian Bowen Smith.

Aside from being one of the featured artists, Brandon is also the founder of Moonlight Arts Collective.

It's a community of art enthusiasts like himself who appreciates the creativity of cultural icons who create masterpieces and “moonlights” as visual artists.

In an explainer video, Brandon talked about what inspired him to establish Moonlight Arts Collective.

“My name is Brandon Boyd and I'm a songwriter, and a painter, and an art enthusiast,“ Brandon said in the intro. “There are so many artists who are like me in that they are known for one thing but then when they get home into their quiet safe space, it actually branch off into another area of art that most of us don't really know about.”

The Incubus frontman also shared some of the struggles he went through in the beginning as a “moonlighting” visual artist.

“Initially it was a little intimidating to share my artwork on a wider scale.

“There were some infrastructural boundaries in front of me.”

“I didn't know where to go to help me do print series.

“I didn't know about paper, I didn't know about quality, all these things.

“And it was something that I deeply wanted to do to bring my visual art to a bigger audience.”

Brandon then revealed how the art community he founded slowly came into being.

“I spent the better part of [10] years or so with some creative partners.

“We very organically found a way to do it that it's both fun and exciting for me as an artist but it's also exciting for collectors of all sorts.

“Now, what we're trying to do with Moonlight is bring that infrastructure to other artists who have a similar approach to their creativity like I do.”

Most of Heart's paintings included in the collection have women as the subject.

One painting shows a woman with big hair that has interesting details in it, while another one depicts one woman with downcast eyes in a crowd of several other women.

Plus, one painting featuring a woman with long dark curly hair seems to be a self-portrait of the Queen of Creative Collaborations, because the woman also has a red heart tattoo on her left wrist, just like Heart.
