LOOK: There's a new online community for bakers

By Racquel Quieta

The community quarantine that began last year has led many of us to discover our untapped potential in the kitchen. Hence, many of us became chefs and bakers during this period.

Some turned to baking to generate income after many industries halted, causing a lot of businesses to shut down and many people losing their jobs.

Some struggled with anxiety and depression during the lockdown but found that baking can be a productive and therapeutic outlet.

And because of many people's newfound love for baking, we also saw a lot of new food trends such as the ube cheese pandesal and Basque burnt cheesecake.

Truly, learning new skills such as baking has been one of the silver linings during this pandemic.

And if you're among the many neophyte bakers and aspiring bakers-- or even if you're already a baking expert--looking for baking aficionados like yourself, there's now an online community that you can join in.

The Bakers' Circle is a dynamic online community with a growing number of members, which include eight professional chefs.

And the group does more than sharing recipes and answering one another's queries.

Here are some of the activities you can expect from The Bakers' Circle once you join them on Facebook and Instagram.

Free webinars

Probably, one of the most exciting things for new and aspiring bakers to look forward to are the free baking basics webinars that the group has in store.

A great example of this is the recently concluded free webinar on Keto or Low Carb Baking with the multi-talented makeup artist and expert baker Chiqui Ortiz-Dingcong.

Baking challenges

If you want to put your baking knowledge and expertise to the test and showcase your masterpiece, The Bakers' Circle also has several monthly and occasion-based challenges that you can participate in.

They recently had a Sourdough Bake Day and a Molten Lava Cake Bake-Off and Raffle Contest on Father's Day.

Supporting local

The Bakers' Circle also shows their love and support for local baking suppliers by having a Market Day every week.

Baking with a heart

And finally, The Bakers' Circle (TBC) is not just about mastering the art of baking, but more importantly, it also gives back to the community through their Community Bakery.

TBC recently made a bread donation to the Grace To Be Born orphanage through Dr. Bing Rosita R. Mendoza.

Prior to that, TBC has also donated the Pinoy-favorite pandesal to families in depressed areas and has extended help to some community pantries in Metro Manila.

Sounds like a community you'd love to be part of? Then join them now on their official Facebook and Instagram page.
